250 JACKSON COLLEGE OF EDUCATION STUDENTS AWARDED SCHOLARSHIP
Two hundred and fifty students (250) of Jackson College of Education (JCE) have been granted life-changing scholarships in a heartwarming ceremony that took place at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi.
At this moving event, some of the fortunate scholarship recipients could not contain their emotions as they approached the stage to collect their well-deserved awards. For them, this support arrived at a crucial juncture, alleviating the financial burdens that threatened to disrupt their educational pursuits.
The Jackson College of Education, with its noble vision of training world-class teachers, to serve in their respective localities upon graduation, meticulously selected these scholarship awardees from its learning centres across the entire country. This endeavour is rooted in the College’s unwavering commitment to supporting needy and marginalized students, with a long-term vision of creating equal opportunities for pupils in disadvantaged areas by producing teachers to serve such communities.
In this regard, the College proactively sought funds from both domestic and international donors with a wide array of organisations and individuals rallying to the cause, with names like Investisseurs & Partenaires (I&P), a prominent French investment company, the Ghana India Trade Advisory Chamber (GITAC), the Jackson Foundation, the Deen Foundation, and compassionate individuals from the diaspora all contributing generously.
As part of its commitment to supporting student’s academic progress, 60 scholarship recipients were also provided with smartphones to enhance their online learning experience. These devices were awarded to students who were deemed to have inadequate tools for their educational journey, ensuring that they could participate fully in the digital age of education. The smartphones are equipped with high-speed internet connectivity, allowing students to access online coursework and communicate with their professors and classmates with ease.
In addition, the College also distributed internet routers to all the learning centres across the country. This initiative was aimed at streamlining the online activities of the College, making it easier for students to access course materials and participate in virtual classes. With the internet routers in place, students can now enjoy faster internet speeds and a more stable connection, enabling them to engage more effectively with their coursework and other online activities.
Dr. Dominic Antwi, President of the Ghana India Trade Advisory Chamber (GITAC) while speaking at the ceremony expressed satisfaction at the immense contribution of JCE to the education sector in Ghana and the delight in partnering with the College to provide support to the needy and underprivileged students. He further indicated the readiness of GITAC to continue to partner with JCE in future projects.
Mr. Daniel Jackson, the Pro-Director of the institution, underscored the institution’s holistic approach to education. Beyond providing top-notch tuition, JCE prioritises the well-being of its students, recognizing that many hail from disadvantaged communities. He revealed that JCE was unique in its fee payment system, offering a ‘susu-like’ approach that allowed students to pay in instalments, ensuring accessibility to education for all, regardless of their financial circumstances.
The overarching vision of the College is nothing short of inspiring. It aims to bring hope and educational empowerment to underserved communities by training professional teachers from within these communities. This mission seeks to bridge the educational divide and prepare students not only for certificates but also to play an active role in building a sustainable and brighter future for society.
“We are here to ensure that our students don’t just earn certificates but also make substantial contributions to society, helping to build a sustainable nation,” he affirmed.
Mrs. Theodosia Jackson, the Principal of the College, explained that the decision to award these scholarships was motivated by the challenging circumstances faced by many students, who are scattered throughout remote regions with limited access to resources. Children in these areas are often disadvantaged due to a lack of professional educators, and this is precisely where JCE steps in. The College’s goal is to equip teachers from these areas to provide high-quality education, ensuring a brighter future for the children they serve.
This heartwarming ceremony is a testament to the power of education and the unwavering dedication of the Jackson College of Education to change lives and communities for the better.
