JCE DONATES TO KUMASI CENTRAL AND MANHYIA PRISONS

Jackson College of Education (JCE), has donated assorted toiletries to the Kumasi Central and Manhyia Prisons in the Ashanti Region.

The items worth GHS12,000.00 included 3,000 pieces of bar soap, 2,500 pieces of toilet roll, two boxes of sanitary pads, an amplifier and three microphones. Two hampers of toiletries were also donated to the Prison officers who take care of the inmates for their use.

The College also presented a cheque for GHS20,000.00 for the procurement of drugs to restock the infirmaries at both Prisons.

Mrs Theodosia Jackson, the Principal of JCE said the donation was an annual gesture by the College to bring some relief to the inmates who largely depended on the benevolence of others.

She said it was important for society to show love and kindness to the numerous prisoners in various prisons across the country to hasten their reformation.

This, she noted, was necessary to ensure prisoners return to society as transformed persons to contribute meaningfully to national development.

She said the upkeep of the prisoners was a collective responsibility of every Ghanaian since they formed part of the national population.

Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Samuel Owusu Amponsah, the Ashanti Regional Prisons Commander, who received the donation, paid glowing tribute to JCE for its continuous support to the prison over the years.

He underlined the need for other corporate bodies and philanthropists to emulate the gesture to improve hygiene among the prisoners.
